Longview House is a specially designed
property built in the early 1970s and extensively refurbished
by 2Care before opening as a psychiatric rehabilitation project
in 1993. The Project is situated in Huyton close to local
shops and public amenities approximately 9 miles from the
city centre of Liverpool.
Longview House offers short to medium term rehabilitation
for up to 20 people between the ages of 18-65 years who are
recovering from severe and enduring mental health problems.
Many service users at Longview House have had multiple admissions
to hospital. |

The house is open and friendly. All rooms are attractively decorated,
each resident has their own bedroom with wash handbasin. Residents
are encouraged to bring their own belongings to personalise their
room.
There are communal living areas, including two lounges, a dining
room, a pool/snooker room, laundry and attractive gardens to the
front and rear of the Project.
The house is designed in such a way as to provide a staged process
of rehabilitation under one roof. The main area of the house accommodates
12 people who participate in collective processes of cooking, cleaning
and shopping. The second stage of the house provides accommodation
for a further 5 clients in a more self contained area. Attached
to the main house, but with its own separate entrance, is a cluster
house for 3 residents which provides the most independent level
of accommodation. Through this three tiered structure service users
progress towards independence.
Everyone has an important part in the decision making process within
the Project. Each individual has a responsibility to the community
as a whole. Service users use local services within Huyton and surrounding
areas such as day centres, education and recreational facilities.
There are also opportunities to become involved with local initiatives
which can offer voluntary work and the chance to increase social
networks and form friendships outside Longview House, which assists
with social integration into the wider community. Involvement with
local colleges, further education and other services is encouraged
and helps residents to gain invaluable skills and experience.
Longview House offers an important and responsive service, helping
people who often have a history of repeated admissions to hospital,
regain independence and move into the wider community successfully.
